May 11, 2006 Just about everyone with an Elecraft radio, shows photos of the build process. Well I guess I will join the club. The difference though, is that I am not building it. My skills are lousy and currently my eyes are not good as I am not able to focus on very small items.
I have entrusted the project to Alan Wilcox, W3DVX. You can find his web site here..... http://wilcoxengineering.com. Alan can also be found on the Elecraft page builders for hire. Thus far I have found that Alan keeps you up to date and communicates with you every step of the way. The photos below are from Alan. He normally provides these as he builds so that the radio owner is kept abreast of the process. Check back often for more photos and for a review of Alan's work………………………………………………………………………
August 28, 2006 Now that my K1 is finished, I should give you a final report on the build project. First and foremost, Alan Wilcox did a fantastic job on the build. The detail and workmanship looks like it was built by machines, rather than by hand. Build time took a little over three months, that may seem long, but Alan was in the middle of moving to a new home, which added some time to the project. Also, Elecraft had missed a few parts in the original order, so the re order increased the down time. I should say though, Elecraft was quick on getting out the parts that were needed. During the construction, Alan either called me to keep me posted on things, and always emailed me by the end of the week with a progress report and photos. Bottom, line I would trust Alan to build another radio for me, (I'm planning one in the future for him). If you are considering a K1, KX1 or a K2 build by an Elecraft builder, strongly consider Alan Wilcox, I think you will be pleased.
